AI Can Design? Think Again. The Brutal Reality Behind the Hype

“AI tools let anyone design an app UI in seconds!”

“Stitch makes Figma look slow!”

“Prompt. Generate. Publish. Done.”

But, But, But, if you’re a designer, product builder, or founder who’s actually tried Google Stitch (formerly Galileo AI), Figma AI, Uizard, or the other flavor-of-the-week tools, you know:

AI spits out layouts fast

but you still spend hours redoing the details, fixing the “vibes,” and asking:

Why does every AI design feel... generic?

Here’s the Hype—And Where It Breaks:

  • Yes, Google Stitch is impressive:

Enter “Dashboard for a crypto tracker, dark mode, modern corners”—you’ll get a decent app UI, ready for Figma, exportable to code.

  • Figma AI zips out wireframes and even helps with text, colors, and layouts.

“Wow, it just organized my artboards and wrote the nav copy. Magic!”

  • Uizard scans sketches and spits out clickable prototypes.

Drag, drop, prompt and you’ve got a screenset that almost looks real.

But after the wow wears off, the pain hits:

  • The layouts look... oddly similar. (Seen this card before?)
  • Some details are weirdly off: “I asked for a pie chart. Got a bar graph. The icon? Placeholder.”
  • The “personality” is missing. It’s fine, but flavorless. No unique POV. No taste.

Here’s Why?

AI is like a really smart remix DJ. It can mix a million existing designs into something “new”, but it can’t invent the next big thing. That’s why Google Stitch, Figma AI, and the rest all spit out stuff that just looks the same. Safe cards, standard colors, layouts you’ve scrolled past a hundred times.

Ask AI to design something with guts or personality? It glitches. Why? Because AI doesn’t “get” context, risks, or why certain weird choices work. It just copies what it’s seen before.

Why Humans Still Matter?

Humans design for feelings, not just patterns. We break rules, on purpose, and that’s where fresh ideas come from. When someone opens your app, you want them to feel something only a human can plan for.

The best AI mockup? It still needs your taste, intuition, and storytelling to actually stand out. That’s why human design is (still) unbeatable.

“After 100,000+ mockups, designers still ask: why does AI keep missing the mark?”

“I use Stitch for a head start, but always, always redo the UX details by hand.”

“If every founder uses the same pattern—are you even building something new?”

The Value of AI? It’s a Tool, not a Designer

AI design is awesome for shortcuts: brainstorming fast, cleaning up drafts, and cranking out “good enough” versions.

But it’s still a tool, not a creative partner.

The magic only happens when a real designer steps in and dials up the personality.

“But AI will get better, right?”

For sure, AI will improve, but it’s nowhere close to understanding taste, context, or how to break the rules on purpose.

Until it grows a gut feeling and real empathy, you’ll always need a human in the loop to make design truly pop.

Don’t Bet Your Next Launch on Autopilot Design

Trusting AI alone with your launch? Risky move.

The safest brands use AI to speed things up, but they always finish with a human’s eye.

Don’t let your product blend in when you can make it stand out.
